  • It told me I didn't need it because I already have it.
  • In addition, a review of the update history (click on "Review your update history" in the left side gray stripe) showed no failures at all.
  • In my case, this debugging information proved critical.
  • I've searched & tried 20 different fixes & nothing has helped.
  • I hate to even write this & I'm typing with my fingers crossed, which is VERY hard to do....

  • what did work was to download and run windows update agent, I let it run for 4 hours before it succeeded getting and update past sp3, and now it works perfectly. Shouldn't that have been sufficient? If I knew what fixed my problem, I'd mark something as a solution, but I think it was just the XP Ghost picking on me.
