I've not tried it with optical cable yet but bet it's got the same characteristics. So, turn off itunes, hook up the HDMI cable,(go to sound [control panel] and make sure that HDMI has the checkmark next to it),load itunes,enjoy. I figured out how to extend the display so there would be the movie on TV and the desktop on the laptop, and I learned how to switch the audio output

You have to make sure that itunes is not loaded before hooking up the HDMI cable. I poked around in files that I probably shouldn't even be allowed to know they exist. Don't troubleshoot using XBMC. Several functions may not work.

The option for HDMI Audio doesn't appear in the 'sound' menus. this content I know this is an ancient topic, but i just have to say THANK YOU! Go for true SVGA blue headed (smaller headed connectors) that you normally see people in Dell using a connection between the CPU and their PC LCD monitors.
