Tried the performance UI settings to disable animations of the charms, does not do the trick either. Control+Shift+Esc to open task manager 2. I'll update you if something changes. A YEAR LATER Microsoft!
Windows 8.1 Start Button Doesn't Work
Not sure if there's a connection but for what it's worth... Shame that one of the most touted (and useful) features got shipped with a bug. Simply pressing the Surface Logo button was enough to change that.

- Go to control panel, open taskbar and navigation.
- Will report if I find it again.
- The windows key will allow me to switch between home and desktop screen, but all hot corners and edges are not working.
- Also, it's a minor annoyance having the buzzing in my mic.

I liked being able to access the menus from either of my two desktop screens. Logically inexplicable, unless you have a virus that has spread via your network to each machine. Once I can get to my Desktop even it can be used to raise the Taskbar. I like windows 8.1 but the update has definitely caused a glitch for many of us. What happened to all of these problems? Can't believe Windows 10 will be released and there will never be a fix for this.
