Glad to see the weather gadget, it's 0ºf in Columbus, Ohio! Or is this a misprint ? Mine was set at 105%. Gadgets didn't re-appear.

I right click on the desktop and click "Gadgets", and it doesn't even come up with the window to let me see the gadgets installed. EDIT EDIT: meh, nah that clock is no good because since it's not a gadget, it disappears if you click on show desktop. Both the 'show desktop icons' and 'show desktop gadgets' entries were checked. It was CHECKED. If this problem occurs even if you tried the prescribed troubleshooting steps, including a System Restore or after running the System File Checker, then try this!
Out of curiosity and Martin's advice, I installed Internet Explorer 11 (x64); it crashes all the time and has been totally unusable. The gadgets should display fine now on the system.
