it's to do with toggle codes, I noticed that the remote control software I have has got a "toggle codes" option when learning. I took heed this time of the advice to not install the .Net Framework 1.1 Hotfix KB886904 and then installed Rollup 2. Make sure that the front of the remote sensor (IR receiver) is not blocked.
