Have you tried booting a virus checking utility? Ubuntu works fine all the way, as I'm used to with other Linux OSs I had in the past years. I have abandoned wireless keyboard/mice due to the constant annoyance of battery and reception issues. i actually just found a system restore from cmd line method im trying right now. I will have to do some research, but I think the utility is called Pkgmgr or something like that. There is another topic here at Bleeping Computer which mentions on screen keyboard stopped working after updating.
